Information is on the menu Friday when Langley United Youth Soccer Association hosts a meeting for prospective and current parents, coaches, teams, and female players in the U5 to U18 age groups.
The meeting focuses on the local club's girls' soccer programming plans for the 2012/13 soccer season, which kicks off in September.
The public meeting, on Feb. 10, begins at 6: 30 p.m. in the Fraser River Presentation Theatre at the Township of Langley administration building, 20338 65th Ave.
The night will also provide details on LUYSA's technical programming from the girls U5 grassroots through to the senior U18 teams from house to select, including coaches and coach education, spring and summer programs, future expansion, the BC Premier League, and the financial strength of the club.
It's also an opportunity to meet many of the club's board of directors, paid staff, and professional coaches.
The club also invites parents to see the U6 to U8 grassroots girls in action every Saturday morning in February, to observe, LUYSA stated, "first-hand how the club puts the player first in its soccer programming."
LUYSA already has 200 girls in the club's grassroots level between U5 and U10, and is aiming to greatly expand that number in its second year of female programming at both grassroots and older age groups up to U18.
"Langley United is very pleased to invite parents, coaches and female players aged U5 to U18 to attend our information meeting and see for themselves why other clubs are asking LUYSA about implementing our state-of-the-art technical programming," said Betty Boucas, president of LUYSA. "Our girls' program mirrors our boys' programming, which itself is based on the CSA's Long Term Player Development model and a leading example in the province. On behalf of the club, I'm looking forward to meeting many of the incoming parents and having our staff answer questions parents may have."
This Friday's information meeting is open to the general public or anyone interested in the future of girls and boys soccer in Langley.
February is open house month at LUYSA.
Those interested are encouraged to check out LUYSA's academy sessions, attend the club's nutrition sessions, and observe its Friday night coach education programs, Boucas said.
"We're building a soccer club that all of Langley can be proud of and we invite parents and female players of all ages to join us as we take aim at building one of the strongest youth and senior soccer clubs in British Columbia," she said.
The LUYSA grassroots girls programs are held Saturday mornings at 8: 30 a.m. (U6) and 10 a.m. (U7 and U8) - weather dependent - on the new Willoughby artificial turf field near the Langley Events Centre (access off 202B Street from 80th or 72nd Avenues).
The U5 division includes games Sundays at 5 p.m. at Willoughby artificial turf. Parent questions can also be directed to any member of the LUYSA board of directors, who are listed on the club's website.
NUTRITION SEMINARS
LUYSA is hosting nutrition seminars for parents and male and female players from the U5 to U18 age groups in February.
The seminars are open to both male and female Langley soccer players and parents, but first priority is given to LUYSA members. The first seminar took place Feb. 2 for U5 to U12 parents and players.
The second event is scheduled for next Thursday, Feb. 16 for the U13 to U18 age groups.
The Feb. 16 seminar goes from 6: 30-7: 30 p.m.
The seminars will be held in the Fraser River Presentation Theatre at the Township of Langley administration building, located at 20338 65th Ave.
Pre-registration is required. The nutrition presentations will be conducted by Kristine Michaud from Coastal Fitness.
Michaud will share information pertaining to growing soccer players, and will talk about preand post-training/game meals, healthy snacks, and the creation of quick on-the-run healthy meals and label reading, among other items.
The presentation ends with a question-and-answer period.
Space will be limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Parents are urged to RSVP by emailing Mark Parker at technicaldirector@luysa.com and confirming the number of people attending.
