The Delta Hurricanes emerged from winter hibernation with an impressive 4-2 win over the ICSF Inter in Vancouver Metro Soccer League premier action last weekend.

After a couple weeks of enforced idleness due to inclement weather, the Hurricanes rode the talented toes of Ryan Dhillon to the win. The SFU star scored three times and set up Harp Khakh for another to power Delta past the Italians.

"Ryan is really playing some good soccer right now," said Delta manager Billy Dhaliwal. "He's been playing well all along but now he's finishing his chances. He's the kind of guy who creates a lot of chances and gets a lot of chances but he hasn't always finished. A game like this is good for his confidence."

Inter opened the scoring in the 15th minute but Dhillon leveled the count less than a minute later. In the second half, Dhillon tapped in a rebound of a Danny Badesha shot to give the Hurricanes their first lead of the game in the 60th minute. Dhillon then teamed with Bikramjit Parhar to set up Khakh for the game winner.

Dhillon completed his hat trick in the 75th minute before Inter scored a late goal to make the final score respectable.

Delta opens Imperial Cup play Saturday at 2 p.m. at JOP against the Tsawwassen Royals of the first division.

. In other action last weekend, defending provincial champion ICST Pegasus moved back into top spot in the VMSL premier tables with a solid 3-1 win over Coquitlam's Metro Ford Wolves.

The Horsemen are one point ahead of West Van and Columbus in the standings with a looming showdown against the latter side this Saturday in Vancouver.

"We're in first place now but it's really tight," said Pegasus coach Rob Reed. "Columbus and West Van both have a game in hand so we have to keep winning. We're obviously going to need a little bit of help if we want to win the league, but all we can do is keep winning one game at a time. We only have four league games left so this game against Columbus is huge for both teams."

At Newton Athletic Park last Friday, Pegasus goalie Andy Singh came up with a couple of super stops in the early going while his teammates were shaking off the rust from weeks of inactivity.

The Horsemen rounded into form after around 20 minutes and promptly took a 2-0 lead on goals 10 minutes apart from Niko Marcina and Paul Bahia.

The score stayed that way until the 80th minute when the Wolves finally solved Singh and cut the score to 2-1. Undaunted, Pegasus countered minutes later when Marcina and Ryan Powell combined to set up Javid Khan for an insurance marker.

. Saturday afternoon at Cloverdale Athletic Park, Surrey United Firefighters recorded a well-earned 2-0 win over the Richmond Hibernians.

Surrey carried the play for much of the contest but, given the stingy nature of the Richmond defence, a two-goal margin of victory counts as an emphatic win for the Firemen.

After a scoreless first half, Surrey finally found the range in the final 45 minutes with a pair of opportunistic goals from Angus Burke.

The Firemen return to action Friday in Vancouver against Croatia.
