Although the crowd was down from the last Clash at the Cascades, about 250 fans found their way to the Coast Hotel and Convention Centre for the 21st edition of the amateur boxing show on Nov. 2.

The main event was a spirited bout between City welterweight champion George Vourtsis of Sunshine Coast and Ron Pryce of North Burnaby Boxing.

This was a rematch that the champ wanted to reverse, as Pryce had been the only boxer to ever defeat Vourtsis.

The match was a seesaw affair and at the end fans were not sure who had won, because it was that close.

The judges also could not agree, however the split decision went to Vourtsis, who retains his title.

The semi main event had City Boxing's Gurpreet Buttar rematch Port Kells welterweight Tom Bennett in what was a close affair.

This was also a back-and-forth contest with Buttar winning his first bout.

Buttar had lost a series of close split decisions and was happy the judges saw it his way.

"The fight was entertaining and had fans engaged," reported City Boxing manager Dave Allison, who is the matchmaker of the Clash series.

In other Clash 21 bouts:

Port Kells middleweight Jamie Chadwick won a split decision over Randy Hollett of Sunshine Coast Boxing.

In another middleweight bout, Remi Levoie of North Burnaby won a decision over Manny Dhillon of Suitellas Boxing in Surrey.

Christian Antonio of Surrey's Port Kells Boxing defeated Scott Woodward of Surrey's Four Corners Boxing in a lightweight bout.

In the Dolls part of what was dubbed "Guys and Dolls II," Alexandra Blight of Madkatz Boxing of Kelowna lost a close match to Jenelle Lawson of Sunshine Coast in a featherweight bout.

City Boxing's Kyla MacKenzie had a public spar with Kate Robinson of Action Boxing in a spirited display. Both boxers weighed in at 140 pounds.

Langley's Sarah Pucek, who is getting ready for her Canadian championship challenge on Dec. 7, sparred with City Boxing clubmate and current City champion Alisah McPhee.

McPhee, who announced at the show that she is planning to turn pro in the new year, was to compete for a B.C. title on the show but her opponent pulled out.

This will be the last Clash event of 2012, in what was a record year for the series.

Allison said these events keep amateur boxing in B.C. alive.

"It was a record year for attendance and number of bouts," Allison added.

The next Clash will be held in January.
