An argument about vandalism escalated into gunfire in Aldergrove in the early morning hours of Aug. 14, Langley RCMP say.
Just after midnight, a resident in the 1900 block of 269A Street approached a neighbour to talk about some vandalism of his property, said Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the local police detachment.
After a short discussion, the vandalism victim returned home.
At some point not long after their talk, police believe the alleged vandal fired several shots in the area.
No one was hit or hurt by the gunfire, but the police were swiftly called.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man, headed into his house and didn’t emerge.
The Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team was called out and surrounded the suspect’s home, and negotiated with him.
The man turned himself in peacefully at about 6 a.m.
He was taken into custody, said Marks.
An investigation is still ongoing into the incident, and the property damage that sparked the gunfire.
Police are not revealing exactly what kind of vandalism took place.
A search warrant was expected to be issued Tuesday for the suspect’s home. The Langley Serious Crime section is looking into the gunfire.
The type of gun, if it has been found, has not been released.
Marks said she is not aware of any long-term feud between the neighbours, and the suspect is not well known to Langley RCMP.
The Client Support and Victim Services group is working with witnesses and family members of those involved.
