Even though the Langley Thunder struggled through much of the 2010 Western Lacrosse Association regular campaign, one of their most reliable players was recognized for his standout play.

Mike Grimes has won the Gord Nicholson Trophy for WLA Defensive Player of the Year.

A third-year WLA player, Grimes has been a solid addition to Langley's defence since being selected in the first round of the 2008 WLA entry draft.

He moved to the West Coast from Peterborough in 2007 and finished his junior career with Burnaby Lakers of the BC Junior A Lacrosse League.

During the winters Grimes plays professional lacrosse for the Washington Stealth of the National Lacrosse League.

Grimes finished the 2010 season with five goals and six assists in 15 games. He was second on the team in penalty minutes with 35.

Team-wise, the Thunder ended up with a 6-12 regular season record, and missed the playoffs.
