The Walnut Grove Gators ran headlong into a juggernaut during Saturday night’s title game of the Fraser Valley boys Triple A basketball championships.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd inside the Langley Events Centre’s triple gym, the Gators fell 75-57 to the No. 2 ranked team in B.C., the Pitt Meadows Marauders Air Force.

Ranked sixth in the province, Walnut Grove Secondary’s senior boys were coming off an impressive 82-64 win over the No. 5-ranked Terry Fox Ravens, from Port Coquitlam, in one of two semifinals played Friday at the LEC.

The Marauders squeaked past Surrey’s Tamanawis Wildcats 63-60 in the other semifinal.

The Gators are now preparing for the 2012 B.C. high school boys' Triple A basketball championships, which run March 13-17 at the LEC.

The Gators’ first game is Wednesday, March 14 against the winner of the Mt. Douglas Rams, Caledonia Kermodes match-up, which is taking place March 13.
