Langley Minor Football's flag Bandits' 22-12 loss to the North Surrey Firebirds on Labour Day Monday had its share of highlights for the home team.

Under a clear sky at McLeod Athletic Park, the Bandits jumped out to a flying start.

With his team choosing to begin on offence, Kirkland Roloff snapped the ball to quarterback Quintinn Steinmann, who handed it off to Vaughn Pinchin.

Pinchin ran the ball for 40 yards, putting Langley up 3-0.

North Surrey responded by scoring a touchdown on the ensuing kick return.

On Langley's second possession, an attempted pass by Steinmann to Jordan Tomica was picked off by North Surrey and returned for a touchdown, putting the visitors up 6-3.

Despite stalwart defensive efforts by the Bandits' Riley Dryborough and Colten Buckley, the Firebirds continued to put points on the board.

The second half of the game saw excellent efforts by Langley's offensive line of Jake Kirby, Zaeden Pleasants, Kirkland Roloff, Rylan Trafford, Tristan Bergeron and Cody Oliver.

The "O" line gave enough time and protection, which led to touchdowns by Tomica and Pinchin.

Other LMF teams were in action over the Labour Day long weekend.

Junior bantam Outlaws

The 12-and 13-year-old Outlaws shook off an early setback, when the visiting North Surrey Falcons scored on their first offensive play of the game on a 64-yard scamper.

Sheldon Gangloff was the spark that ignited the Outlaws' dominating recovery, with a spectacular 79-yard touchdown return of the ensuing kick-off.

Credit goes to the Outlaws' offensive line of Owen Jenkins, Ross Baykey, Jayden Couchesne, Nicholas McCrory and Damen Norris, whose physical play set up additional majors for Gangloff, Riley Hegedus, and Azuka Okoli in the Outlaws' season-opening 39-8 victory.

Atom Broncos

In a game dominated by the defences, the Broncos made a goal line stand in the dying seconds of the game to come out victorious, 18-12, against the North Surrey TBirds in their first regular season game of the year.

The Broncos' defenders were tough all game and they needed to be as Langley's offence was contained by a solid North Surrey defence.
