Eight's great for Titans

The red hot B.C. squad closes out its regular season this weekend.

There are winning streaks, then there is what the B.C. Titans are currently doing.

The Titans are in the midst of a mega-roll, and, in the process, are rolling over all International Basketball League comers in convincing fashion.

Lopsided home court wins over the Oregon Waves and Tacoma Tide over the weekend extends the Titans' win streak to eight games with two contests remaining in the IBL season.

"The difference is the leadership," Titans head coach Scott Allen said. "The plan of action has been the same from the beginning of the year."

Allen added that the Titans have tightened up defensively. Meanwhile, the players' collective confidence continues to grow.

"I think they believe they can beat anybody right now," Allen said. "The 'bigs' [big players] are playing well, and our shooters are shooting the ball well. Now it's limiting the number of turnovers and second-chance points."

Saturday at the Langley Events Centre (LEC), the Titans made it seven wins in a row with a 153-93 blowout of the Oregon Waves.

B.C. attacked from all angles, led by Lawrence Blackledge's 32 points. Josh Washington (27 points) and Casey Archibald (25 points, 12 rebounds, and 17 assists) also had big nights for the home team.

All told, seven Titans hit double figures in scoring. Also reaching the double digit mark were Emmy Unaegbu and Wayne Marshall with 15 points apiece, Terrence Hundley with 13 points, and Chad Troyer with 12 points.

Sunday afternoon at the LEC, the Titans combined solid defence with another pile of points to quell the Tacoma Tide 129-72.

Blackledge's 24 points, Washington's 23 points, and Marshall's 22 points spearheaded B.C.'s balanced attack. Randy Nohr added 18 points while Archibald's chipped in with 12 points. Troyer and Hundley tallied 10 points apiece for the home team, which won its eighth game in a row.

The Titans - now 13-7 on the season and sitting in third place in the IBL's International Division - will look to end the IBL regular season on a 10-game unbeaten run when they host the Olympia Reign in back-to-back games at the LEC this weekend.

The Titans' streak will be put in jeopardy by a Reign team that sits on top of the International Division. Olympia is an impressive 15-3 and is looking to avenge a 115-104 loss to the Titans suffered May 9.

The IBL rivals tip off at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
