Starting this Friday (July 13) at the Langley Events Centre, 162 of Canada's best trampoline gymnasts will begin their quest to be crowned champion at the 2012 Trampoline Gymnastics Canada Cup.
The LEC will be a sea of action as this annual national event kicks off.
Gymnastics BC, Gymnastics Canada, and the local organizing committee are welcoming athletes from Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec, France, Germany, Great Britain, and Japan.
In addition to athletes from across Canada, B.C. is well represented with athletes from Flip City (Langley), Club Aviva (Coquitlam), Kamloops Gymnastics Trampoline Centre (Kamloops), Okanagan Gymnastics Center (Kelowna), Revelstoke Acrobatics (Revelstoke), Shasta Trampoline Team (New Westminster), and TAG Sports Centre (Port Coquitlam) all competing.
The Canada Cup is supported by several local businesses and the province through the Hosting BC project.
"B.C. sport events provide significant economic benefits to communities, build volunteer capacity, and give athletes a chance to compete at home," said Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. "These investments will build on our unique hosting experience from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games."
Competition begins at the LEC, 7888 200th St., Friday at 9 a.m. and runs until Sunday at 11: 45 a.m.
Tickets are on sale at the door with prices beginning at $10 with discounts for seniors and students; children under the age of five get in free.
