An all-star cast will put skating skills on display on the Langley Events Centre's ice surface this Saturday.
The LEC is just a couple of days away from hosting some of the world's best figure skaters for the Holiday Festival On Ice show.
The show gets underway Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
Kurt Browning, Elvis Stojko, Joannie Rochette, and recent Skate Canada Hall of Fame inductee Jeffrey Buttle will be performing in a 90-minute show, in what promises to be one of the most unique and anticipated events to come to the LEC since its opening in 2009.
In addition to the aforementioned figure skating superstars, the event has just added a rising star to the cast as Kaetlyn Osmond has replaced Nicole Bobek in the lineup.
Osmond, from Sherwood Park, Alta., has been progressing rapidly up the skating radar, having recently won the Skate Canada International in addition to placing at numerous other high profile events.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.ca or at the LEC ticket office.
Stojko is one of the featured performers. In 1991, the two-time Olympic silver medalist (1994, 1998), and seven-time Canadian champion became the first man to ever perform a quadruple toe loop, double toe loop combination jump in competition.
Members of the Langley Figure Skating Club are going to the event, including coaches Rob Woodley and Julie Kivinen.
Woodley expects the show to be very motivational.
He said the young local skaters won't have to travel very far to see the best in the world perform.
"It will be very inspirational," Woodley said, adding that the star-studded cast of skaters have sharpened their skills through countless hours of hard work.
"It takes thousands of hours of practice and it's mostly the effort they put into it," Woodley said. "Yes, they have natural talent but they have to put so much work and so much effort into planning and training."
People see the final product but they don't see the hard work that's done behind the scenes, Woodley added.
"Every one of those skaters has had injuries," he said. "You have to learn how to fall the right way."
