The Langley Thunder's win streak has ended at four.
Langley's Western Lacrosse Association entry suffered its first loss in nearly three weeks, after dropping a 10-9 decision to the host New Westminster Salmonbellies Thursday at Queen's Park Arena.
The last time the Thunder tasted defeated was June 23, when the local boys lost 12-4 to the Coquitlam Adanacs.
Against the 'Bellies, the Thunder looked poised to win its fifth straight contest.
But the host team had other ideas. Langley led 9-8 with less than five minutes to play.
New West's Jordan McBride tallied the tying goal at the 15: 55 mark of the third period. Just 13 seconds later, the 'Bellies' Corbyn Tao scored what turned out to be the game winner.
The Thunder couldn't find a way to net the equalizer over the next four minutes and change as the 'Bellies eked out a onegoal victory.
The Thunder led 7-4 after Kerry Susheski scored his fourth of the night at the 9: 31 mark of the second period, but in the world of the WLA, no lead is safe.
The 'Bellies scored the final three goals of the period to tie the game at 7-7 after 40 minutes of action.
The home team scored the first goal of the third period. After that, goals from Langley's Matthew MacGrotty and Lewis Ratcliff (his second of the night) put the Thunder up by one.
Ratcliff ended up with 15 shots on goal. Alex Turner also scored a pair for the Thunder in a losing effort.
The Thunder's top scorer, Athan Iannucci, was held to one assist.
The Thunder's Brodie MacDonald took the loss, stopping 36 of 46 shots.
Langley saw its record drop to 10-5 on the season.
Even with the loss, the Thunder sits alone atop the seven-team WLA.
Second place Burnaby has a 7-5-2 record.
The Thunder returns home to play the Victoria Shamrocks this Saturday (July 21). Game time at the Langley Events Centre is 7 p.m. This marks the Thunder's first appearance at the LEC since it beat the Shamrocks 9-6 June 30.
