Dad shares story about losing son

Anyone who drives is invited to a presentation by a father whose son died in a car crash

A local father relives his son's death each time he lectures young people about the dangers of speeding.

But for Greg Drew, telling Jay's story is vital to help young people understand the consequences of their actions.

That's why Revolution Martial Arts and Fitness invited him to give his presentation there on Saturday.

Jason (Jay) Drew was a young man who tragically lost his life after having a high speed single vehicle crash on May 11, 2003. It wasn't about alcohol or drugs. Jay's life ended because of speed but the presentation deals with the various choices young people make behind the wheel, including whether to drink or use drugs or whether to get into a vehicle with someone who has.

Organizer Tamara Wolfe said the intent is to provide young people "tools they need to get out of unsafe situations involving vehicles and driving. Jay's story illustrates how wrong choices can have devastating, permanent consequences."

Revolution, at 104-20460 Langley Bypass, offered to host the event, which starts at 11 a.m.

"Many members of Revolution are young drivers or close to driving age, and we feel it is important to get the message of safe driving across to as many kids as possible," she said.

Greg will give a presentation which includes showing the mangled wreckage of his son's vehicle, and will take audience questions.

Admission is by donation. All proceeds go to the Jammin' 4 Jay Charitable Society. RSVP to Wolfe at twolfe@shaw.ca. More information is at www.jammin4jay.com.

The presentation is for all ages that get behind the wheel - 14 and up - and adults can attend.

"Yes, adults are welcome," she said. "We need a reminder of safe driving choices as well."
