I stated two years ago that Langley Township's policy of having to complain about your neighbour's various vehicles and miscellaneous trappings displayed on their driveways and/or front and side lawns was a non-starter.
Most people will not stir a hornets' nest, especially when they have to live beside it.
I went for a Sunday stroll in my immediate neighbourhood, bounded by 200th and 212th Streets and 40th and 44A Avenues. I recorded 38 illegally parked trailers, boats, campers, rusted-out cars, etc.
There was one site that had graveled the front lawn to make way for two large work trailers, a utility trailer, and two large pickup trucks.
Another, just around the corner, had a boat repair set-up in the driveway, with hoists and ramps, etc. Both are still there, two years later.
I would estimate that the number of offenders has since almost doubled.
The Township, by deferring enforcement without written complaint, was costing homeowners (offenders included) money on resale of homes when the neighbourhood gets run down and subsequent assessments are lowered.
I also stated two years ago that this issue would become a cause celebre.
