Gee, I guess I should get on my knees and kiss the ground for transportation minister Mary Polak's wonderful, thoughtful temporary break on the Port Mann tolls [For whom the bridge tolls, Sept. 13 Opinion, Langley Advance].
It's yet another clueless spin in the Liberals' attempt to woo voters - which won't fly, as the toll is simply another tax from the dozens they've added over their years in power.
We already pay carbon taxes, fuel taxes, surcharges up the wazoo, etc., which are supposed to pay for the bridge we will be paying for again, but they don't get it.
The rich and famous in North Vancouver and Whistler got a nice free road, yet we 98 per-centers get to pay for our new road.
I could go on and on, but we get the picture. Mary doesn't.
I am lucky that I don't have to use either the Golden Ears or the new toll bridge, and will avoid the Port Mann at all costs, even if it costs me more gas to get around - gas which I buy in the U.S.
This will affect the business just over either side of the bridge, as a lot will refuse to cross it more than once a day.
I feel sorry for commuters living pay cheque to pay cheque who can't avoid it; this will take another meal off their plates while the fat cat Liberals get huge wages and nice pension packages.
Enough ranting for the day, I have to get to work so I can afford to live in this expensive, bloated province.
