Paws traded for shark fins

Dear Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to announce my new restaurant, Scott's Bear Paw Soup Emporium.

The recent court decision to strike down the shark fin soup bylaw in Toronto has opened the door for me to fulfill my lifelong dream of serving my ancestors' traditional recipe of bear paw soup locally.

I will be sourcing bear paws that have been removed in the traditional way, while the bears are still fully conscious. Then the animals will be allowed to die as nature had intended, consumed by other predators or simply from blood loss over one or two hours.

The texture that the paws give the soup is amazing, and will allow you to overlook the fact that they in no way add any flavour to the broth.

Bowls of soup will start at $50, but the soup coming from the more rare (endangered) species will start at $150, increasing as it becomes more and more difficult to find certain species, for some strange reason.

Once again, I would like to thank the people fighting the shark fin soup ban so I can keep my own traditions alive.
