The Langley RCMP are recommending that a 23-year-old Langley man be charged with assault after a man and woman in their 60s were assaulted on the evening of March 30.
The young man is known to police and may also face charges related to destruction of property.
At about 8:30 p.m., the Langley RCMP was called about vandalism in the area of the park in relation to a group of young people.
"We got a report about a group of youths doing damage to cars," said Langley RCMP Const. Craig van Herk.
A male was seen kicking three side mirrors off of three cars.
"This group of young people made their way into the park," he explained.
The young man matching the same description as the one who damaged the mirrors was seen uninating in the park.
The senior man made a comment and the young man assaulted him.
"The female that was there was also assaulted," van Herk said. "And the group took off."
Witnesses of the car damage and the assault helped the police investigation.
"And within minutes we had a male in custody," he said.
The senior man and woman were able to head home on their own, uninjured.
