It was not without shock and disgust that I read Brent Richter's May 8 story chronicling the vulgar, hateful and ultimately racist comments of elected council member Rod Clark. I have been a resident of the North Shore for 25 years and consider it to be a beautiful environment with accepting political views on both sides of the Capilano River. Upon reading about Mr. Clark's comments, I can no longer hold this point of view of our community.

Three recent events have prompted me to write. First, the media coverage about the coming out of NBA star Jason Collins. Secondly, a group of women friends discussing whether or not there is a need for a Gay volleyball league. Thirdly, on a recent visit to Steveston, a group of middle-aged patrons joking about a server's sexuality.
It is shocking that city councillor Rod Clark could use a racist slur in public and call it common practice in this day and age! Just withdrawing his comment is not enough - he should publicly apologize in this paper and take a sensitivity training class. He represents so many minorities in this diverse city - who is next?
CITY of North Vancouver councillor Rod Clark has publicly apologized for using a racial slur during a council debate on Monday night.
Wow! NDP leader Adrian Dix has managed to redefine the term "young offender", not just once, but twice in one election. First, he pardoned himself for forging a document for his boss, Glen Clark, when he (Dix) was 35 years old. Apparently, 35year-olds don't know that forging documents, and then lying about it, is wrong.

It was not good to read about Chilliwack racist email to an Indo-Canadian restaurant owner.
