Abram and Lena Driediger celebrated 60 years of marriage in November.

Driediger: Honouring more than 60 years of marriage

Abram and Lena Driediger - November 13, 1949 ... The story of Abram and Lena began right here on the steps of Bethel Mennonite Church in March of 1948. Abe had already been attending Bethel for a year before this. Lena began attending, and thus their history began! They were married here at Bethel, in the original building, on Nov. 13, 1949.

Give credit where due

I have watched with interest the articles written, and photo opportunities taken, by Mayor Malcolm Brodie and his ilk telling us how they have rescued the Steveston Interurban Tram from oblivion and how they are now taking credit for it.

Chef du jour

Home economist Darlene Tanaka was raised in Steveston and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in home economics. Her first job after graduation was in the research and development department of BC Packers. She has also worked as a quality control manager for local food processors and in the test kitchen of the Vancouver Sun. Tanaka presently works for Bernardin (brand mason jar company) as a consultant and as a teacher of canning workshops. Her other contract work includes coordinating community kitchen programs and food styling. Catch Tanaka this Sunday, Sept. 14 at noon as this week's Chef in the Market at the Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market, which are held every Sunday and until September 28. Each week, Chef in the Market invites a "local celebrity" chef to cook in its outdoor kitchen and work with seasonal ingredients, while market goers watch and learn.
