Plenty of people dug out their plaid for the Langley Seniors' Resource Centre Robbie Burns luncheon on Jan. 23.

The centre's auditorium was filled as piper Joe McDonald escorted the haggis bearer through the sea of tartan for the ceremony to honour the Scottish poet. Served up was a menu of haggis, the traditional combination of seasoned meat and oats stuffed into animal stomach, along with other Scottish fair such as tatties (potatoes), and bashed neeps (mashed turnip).

There were also the traditional toasts, poems, music, and socializing.

Robbie Burns Day is Jan. 25 but many groups host events around that time. The Jan. 23 event included Marg Halcro parading the haggis through the crowd.
