Gift cards and a Samsung tablet are some of the prizes up for grabs during Responsible Gambling Awareness Week in Langley.
Langley is one of five communities where gambling awarness activities are planned – Langley, Prince George, Kamloops, Vernon and West Shore.
For the local event, BCLC has partnered with the Langley Community Services Society.
The public is invited to check out the BC Lottery Corp. Myth-Busting Kiosks that will be in five locations over a five-day span. People can learn myths and facts about gambling through interactive games.
- Monday, Jan. 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Kwantlen Polytechnic University
- Tuesday, Jan. 22 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Langley Seniors Resources Centre
- Tuesday Jan. 22 2-4 p.m.: Langley Community Services Society
- Wednesday, Jan. 23 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Save-on-Foods, Aldergrove
- Thursday, Jan. 24 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.: IGA, Walnut Grove
- Friday, Jan. 25 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Willowbrook Shopping Centre
The activities are part of Gambling Awareness Month during January and culminate in a public open house on Jan. 26 at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, room 1030.
It runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with speakers starting at 10:30. There will be a draw for a Samsung tablet for those attending.
Responsible Gambling Month activities also include Twitter and Facebook contests.

For the Twitter contest, people must be 19 or older and retreat BCLS Tweet about responsible gambling acvities in each community. The Langley BCLC Twitter contest runs from 9 a.m. on Jan. 25 to 5 p.m. on Jan 26 and the prize is a $50 Visa card.
The Facebook contest period ends at 5 p.m. on Jan. 31. For this contest, people must post an image about what responsible gaming means to them or they can get their name entered by emailing the image to BCLC. (Check out the rules online).
BCLC has put out the word that it’s looking for volunteers to help with these events.
