Rapid Bus service from Carvolth in North Langley to the Braid Street Skytrain station in New Westminster starts Dec. 1.

Three levels of government along with TransLink and other stakeholders held an official grand opening of the new Langley Park and Ride Friday morning.

The 555 bus will run between the two communities along the TransCanada Highway. During peak hours, service will be every 10 minutes and every 30 minutes during off-peak.

The buses will run 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays.

The route is expected to have 3,000 to 4,000 people board each day.

The Carvolth Transit Exchange will also see local buses stop in so people can connect with the route of 388, 501, 509, 595 and C62.

The transit exchange has 650 parking stalls which are free to start out but fees are coming as of March 31, 2013.

There are 14 kiss and ride drop off spots as well as 15 designated carpool parking spots that will be assigned by lottery. People must register at travelsmart.ca by Dec. 7 to get in on the lottery.
