Dear Editor,
As a funeral director, I wish to tell Mr. Harvey [Soldiers deserve respect, too, Nov. 29 Letters, Langley Advance] that yes, indeed, members of the Canadian armed forces killed in action all receive full honours: from the moment they land at Trenton Air Force Base, with a full escort to Toronto, where their bodies are prepared for transport and funeral, to the funeral home in their home town, wherever in Canada.
It would be impossible to establish just how many of these funerals have taken place, but we had the honour of performing one right here in Aldergrove. A young man gave his life for his country and his regiment, the New Westminster Regiment. There was a full escort of military, RCMP, and other police forces. It was one of the finest funerals I have had the honour of providing.
Active members of police forces, firefighters, and other public service personnel deserve nothing less.
Wayne Boylan, Aldergrove
