Fort Langley is Langley's oldest community, but it is now undergoing more changes than it's seen in a generation.
Last week, Fort residents got their first chance to see plans for a 52-unit housing development called McBride Station.
Developer Landstone Homes held the event in the Fort Langley Community Hall, just to the southeast of the lot where the new homes are planned.
The units will range from one to two storeys in height, so as not to overshadow historic buildings like the hall.
"That was one of the comments from the original public meeting," said architect Colin Hogan.
The new development, if approved, will be strata homes and townhouses ranging from 1,100 to 1,700 square feet.
Fort resident Kim Brandt said the project looks nice enough, and he doesn't have an issue with more density, but traffic could be a concern.
"We need more public transit, if we're going to densify as we are," Brandt said.
The proposal follows in the wake of the reveal of plans for the Coulter Berry Building, a proposed three-storey complex for the corner of Mavis Avenue and Glover Road.
That project would include ground-floor stores and restaurants, offices on the second floor, and 10 residential units on the third floor.
Meanwhile, a new grocery store to replace the IGA, lost in a fire a year and a half ago, is almost finished on Mavis Avenue, and the last phase of the Bedford Landing complex on the former sawmill site by the river is nearing completion.
The developers of the McBride Station concept will take their plans to Township council in the next few months. A public hearing will be held if the project passes first and second reading by the local politicians.
