Mason isn’t old enough to vote but he’s helping ensure others can

A high school student is spending the day helping at a Langley voting site.

Mason MacDonald won’t be eligible to vote for another three years but he’s already getting involved in the democratic process.

The Grade 10 student at Brookswood Secondary is spending 12 hours at Nicomekl Elementary as an election official, along with several other members of the community, albeit older than he is.

He saw signs around his school about getting involved with the election and was assigned to the polling station in the Langley riding.

MacDonald said he thinks it’s important to participate.

“I plan to vote as soon as I am of age,” he said.

Does he have any ideas about how to get more young people out to the polls?

He said having programs and information in the schools helped whet his appetite and he expects that will carry over to when he’s of voting age and must make a decision about where to make his mark.
