The Langley RCMP has arrested a Mexican man at near the Aldergrove border crossing Sept. 18 and seized about $1 million in what police think is ecstasy.
It all started with a call from the U.S. Border Patrol.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Langley RCMP received information from the United States Border Patrol Services about a suspicious male in the 27200 block of 0 Avenue.
“They advised they had been monitoring the male who was hiding in the ditch just north of the border,” said Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks.
Police along with Air Services and the Integrated Police Dog Services were involved. The man was located
“He attempted to flee, however the dog and handler were able to quickly establish a track and the suspect was taken into custody,” she said. “He was in possession of two large duffel bags.”
The bags contained 20 packages and weighed more than 20 kilograms. Marks said the street value of that much ecstasy is more than $1 million.
Samuel Lopez-Rio, 30, will appear in court Sept. 27 on charges of trafficing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Marks said he will remain in custody.
