Free activities for one-and-all are the name of the game in Douglas Park this summer.
You may have already noticed a variety of events taking place at Spirit Square since the dog days of summer began. Some, like Fitness Fridays and dancing with the instructors from Dancing for Dessert are winding down, while others like Bard in the Valley are ramping up.
Take advantage of the summer fun before it's over. Christine Daum, City of Langley recreation supervisor of youth, fitness, and seniors, noted that the activities sponsored by the City in Douglas Park are, "promoting getting outdoors and getting active."
Aug. 3 is the last Fitness Friday in the park and will feature Zumba - a Latin dance inspired form of exercise. This free adult-oriented session runs from noon to 1 p.m. at Spirit Square.
One of the most popular activities this summer has been free dance lessons with the ballroom dance specialists from Dancing for Dessert. More than 50 people have attended each Friday night. The last dance class is also on Aug. 3 and runs from 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday mornings offer the City Summer Series in Douglas Park from 10 a.m. to noon. These mornings are family drop ins and will be on until the end of Aug. featuring a wide range of activities, crafts and games.
Another "fun for all ages" event is Boppin' in the Park, hosted by non-profit group You've Gotta Have Friends. Whether you want to tap your toes, sway, or dance to the music, Spirit Square is the place to be Friday Aug. 24 at 6: 30 p.m. for live music and real community vibes.
If music and dancing is your thing, but you'd prefer to watch and listen rather than move, check out some of the local up-and-coming talent showcased at the Sounds of Summer. Each evening in Douglas Park features two different artists. Shows start at 6: 30 p.m. and run to 8: 30 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 29.
