There will be two people vying to represent the NDP in Fort LangleyAldergrove in the next provincial election.

Shane Dyson, who ran in the riding in 2005, has announced he will run for the nomination as candidate against Gail Chaddock-Costello.

Dyson, who has also run for Township council positions in the past, said he wanted to run because of the importance of the next vote.

"I want to be part of that, the exchange of ideas," he said.

A communications consultant, Dyson said he's known Chaddock-Costello for years and holds her in high regard.

"It will be a very respectful contest," he said.

The members of the party will ultimately be looking to determine which of the two should represent eastern Langley and Aldergrove in the Legislature, he said.

"We do share a lot of political views, but the membership will be looking for differences," he said.

Bringing together the various communities within the riding, from Walnut Grove to Glen Valley to Aldergrove, would be Dyson's goal as an MLA, he said.

He also slammed the Liberals, who have been ailing in the polls in recent months, for issues from HST to BC Rail to cutting Community Living grants.

Whoever wins could face longtime Liberal MLA Rich Coleman, who has served in numerous cabinet positions under former premier Gordon Campbell and current Premier Christy Clark.

NDP members in the riding will choose their nominee on Nov. 4. New members must register online by Aug. 6, or by this Wednesday on paper, to be eligible to cast a ballot.
