Dear Editor,
I sent this letter to my MP, and was hoping to see it put in the newspaper, in hopes that he may actually read it instead of it being filed under "constituent communication" (wastebin).
To my MP, Mark Warawa,
I have been puzzled at what you and our government are doing lately, especially when it comes to the environment.
Before you stop reading and think, "Oh, another eco nut!" I am far from it, and have been a regular Conservative voter for most of my life, even before they were the Conservatives.
I support a lot of the justice system changes and also am not against making sure our government is run efficiently without patronage or waste.
However, I cannot understand what appears to be a deliberate attempt to antagonize and alienate anyone who may think it important to ensure we or our grandchildren can safely consume and/or harvest the animals in our forests or seafood in our oceans.
This government seems to be intentionally trying to silence any opinions other than its own by removing our scientists or getting Revenue Canada to conduct harassing audits of groups that may disagree.
In my own business of home energy upgrades, the grants provided by the federal government were a small fraction of the business revenue generated and taxes (HST, income tax, payroll tax) produced, and the spin-off into the economy.
The government, by any method of accounting, was earning far more than it contributed. The only apparent reason appears to be that it helps the environment.
It appears that we need a new political party that is more in tune with what us average citizens are interested in, or at least a much more powerful opposition.
I look forward to receiving the standard form letter stating you appreciate our feedback and will push hard to represent our community but cannot respond to every letter- etc. etc.
You, sir, have let this citizen down, and I cannot understand how what you are doing can be good for Langley or good for our country.
Corey Dowie, Langley
