It's hard to fathom devouring 1,500 deluxe cheeseburgers in a lifetime. But en masse, that's how many of the famous In-N-Out burgers will be consumed on a single day in Langley this weekend.
During Saturday's Langley Good Times Cruise-In, the popular American burger chain has once again asked to be part of the show.
That's the third time the California-based restaurant will set up in the Value Village parking lot to sell burgers - giving all proceeds, plus a $2,500 sponsorship - to the Cruise-In committee's charities of choice. And again, they're expected to sell out.
In past years, their participation has translated to almost $10,000 for this community, said show president Riccardo Sestito.
"Obviously, In-N-Out is a good thing for the community and the Cruise-In," he added, noting some are critical of the U.S. company's presence at the show until they realize the contribution they make.
Local collectors who travel to California have long raved about the In-N-Out burgers, and Cruise-In was honoured when the 63year-old company, owned by the Snyder family, asked to be part of the show.
One of In-N-Out Burger's vice-presidents, Carl Van Fleet, said a team of 10 staff with a truck will roll into Langley later in the week, everyone excited to be coming back to one of North America's most renowned shows.
"We are excited to be able to support the Cruise-In charities again," he told the Langley Advance.
"The opportunity to support the Cruise-In charities in Canada is great for us for a few reasons. As a pioneer of the drivethrough, we have enjoyed a long association with cars and car enthusiasts. It is [also] a great opportunity for us to provide philanthropic support in Canada," Van Fleet said.
"Once again, there is a lot to like about Cruise-In. first and foremost is the charitable nature of the event, but we also love the association with cars," Van Fleet said.
In addition to the visiting concessionaire, there are a dozen local charities and service groups setting up food stands around the downtown for this year's Cruise-In.
On top of the money raised directly by Cruise-In, the food vendors raise about $20,000 that again stays in the community through their respective groups.
