Oh baby!
The Lower Mainland’s first baby of 2013 was born at Langley Memorial Hospital.
The Lower Mainland’s New Year’s baby, Shane Carter Greenwood, came into the world at 12:26 a.m. at Langley Memorial Hospital. Shane is a new son to mom Alyssa and dad Justin, and brother to two-year-old Shawn.

There was a baby boom at Langley Memorial Hospital on the first day of 2013.
No fewer than five babies were born at LMH’s maternity ward Jan. 1.
The first to come into the world was Shane Carter Greenwood, who arrived at 12:26 a.m.
The babes kept coming at LMH. Boys were born at 2:10 a.m. and 3:04 a.m. followed by girls at 4:12 a.m. and 5:29 a.m.
Shane, who weighed nine pounds, five ounces at birth, was not only Langley’s first baby of the year, but also has the distinction of officially being the Lower Mainland’s New Year’s baby.
Son to parents Justin and Alyssa and kid brother to two-year-old Shawn, Shane was 24 minutes shy of being the first baby born in B.C. in 2013.
That honour goes to a baby boy born in Kamloops at 12:02 a.m.
Shane continues a family tradition of New Year’s babies. Forty-four years ago, his grandma Kelly was born Jan. 1 in Surrey.
Alyssa said the timing of Shane’s birth was a coincidence. Her due date was Dec. 27.
“I thought I was going to have a Christmas baby,” she said.
Mom described the birth as “difficult, but manageable.”
