Water from GVRD

Langley Township must borrow most of the money for a new water system for East Langley.

Langley Township is going ahead with the $36.2 million East Langley water supply, giving unanimous final approval to a 20-year borrowing bylaw for $33.5 million.

The project involves connecting the Aldergrove area to the Greater Vancouver Water District water system, including the costs of construction, land acquisition and planning.

East Langley is currently supplied entirely through treated groundwater sources. Tying into Metro Vancouver's water system will help reduce the rate that the East Langley aquifer is depleted. Growth in the eastern side of the Township is limited due to water issues.

The project is expected to be complete in 2013. Mayor Jack Froese noted that no public responses or feedback were received about this project.
