A cyclist was airlifted to hospital from South Surrey on Saturday after a hit-and-run driver in a dump truck slammed her off the road.

The dump truck, a red or burgundy coloured vehicle with a pup trailer, hit the rider at about 11: 30 a.m. in the 18000 block of 16th Avenue.

Emergency responders found the 52-year-old victim in a ditch, being cared for by some bystanders who had stopped to offer help.

The woman was rushed to hospital by Air Ambulance. According to the Surrey RCMP, she suffered serious but not lifethreating injuries to her pelvic area.

The rear part of the woman's bike, including a luggage rack, was mangled in the collision.

It is unknown if the dump truck driver is even aware that he hit a cyclist. Police would like to speak to the driver about the incident.

The police also offered thanks to the Good Samaritans who stayed to help the victim.

Anyone with more information about the hit and run should call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
