A minivan collided with a school bus Monday morning in Langley, fortunately leaving some children jostled but unhurt.

At 8:35 a.m., the van hit the back of a school bus on 52nd Avenue, near Credo Christian Elementary.

There were a few of the elementary school students still on the bus at the time of the collision, said principal Heres Snijder.

“Fortunatley, there were no injuries,” he said.

The school authorities aren’t exactly certain of the exact cause, and whether black ice was directly to blame, said Snijder.

However, he advised cautious driving, especially around the school zone in the 21900 block of 52nd Avenue.

The school sits on flat land directly to the west of a steep hill. Drivers coming down the hill, especially when there are low temperatures, need to be careful. School buses, parents, and a crosswalk are all at the bottom of the hill.

“At the best of times, it’s something to keep in mind,” said Snijder.

An icy fog had settled over much of Langley on Monday morning, leaving ice on many road surfaces.

“We’ve been chasing a number of car accidents this morning,” said assistant Township fire chief Bruce Ferguson.
