They came; they rode; they raised funds for Langley's homeless shelter.
The fifth annual Mercy Ride for the Homeless was a huge success, according to Salvation Army Gateway of Hope director of operations Troy Gaglardi.
"All in all, the day turned out to be a gorgeous, sunny day and [we] raised $5,000," said Gaglardi, who took part in Saturday's ride.
The two-and-a-half hour ride had approximately 80 participants travel along Langley's roads to Aldergrove Lake Regional Park.
Once there, they played a game of "pitch the ball" in the Super Save bin to win a prize.
The motorcycle convoy then proceeded to Abbotsford, then north to the Fraser River, before meandering through Glen Valley.
The motorcyclists, passengers, and supporters ended up at the Barnes Harley-Davidson location in North Langley for what Gaglardi called "a fantastic barbecue with food supplied by Moxies and IGA."
The Langley HOGS (Harley Owners Group) prepared the meal.
"Music was by the JC Celebration band, a tribute to Johnny Cash, and all agreed they were first class," said Gaglardi, who thanked the Advance for its support.
All funds raised will provide training and assistance for those at the Gateway of Hope at 5787 Langley Bypass.
