The president of Langley’s Trinity Western University has announced he will step down this summer.
Jonathan S. Raymond announced on Friday that he will be leaving his post as of July 1 this summer.
“In my 38-plus years in higher education, I cannot remember a more wonderful and blessed seven years than these past seven spent in the company of a very special community pursuing a glorious, noble mission,” Raymond said in a statement. “It is because the essence of the university truly is Jesus Christ that my period of service as president has been so personally satisfying.”
The board of governors thanked Raymond for his service and noted he was leaving to “give attention to personal health issues.”
He will remain a president emeritus and senior fellow of the university.
Raymond has served as president for seven years, after a career spent largely in the United States.
A social psychologist by training, he worked at the National Institute of Mental Health in the 1970s, then spent the next several decades in academia. He worked on the faculties of universities from Maryland and Arizona to Hawaii. From 1999 to 2006 he was a president and vice-chancellor at Booth College in Winnipeg.
Raymond was also involved with groups like the Salvation Army, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization.
