Olympians' pair dominates meet

 

LOSC’s Justin Schramm and Joshua Kim had were as good as gold at a meet held in mid-January, winning all of their events.

 
 
 

Earlier this month, a team of young Langley Olympians Swim Club members showed their speed in the waters of the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.

LOSC took part in the 2013 CDSC New Year’s Invitational Meet.

Hosted by the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club, the three-day meet featured a number of top clubs from the Lower Mainland and a team from Washington State.

Justin Schramm was once again in top form as he swept the board with gold in all his nine events.

Along the way, the 14-year-old set a new Olympians’ club record in the 50m fly in a time of 27.97 seconds.

He also broke six meet records in his age group in the 1,500m freestyle (16:50.47), 200m IM (2:15.49), 100m fly (1:01.26), 200m fly (2:10.77), 100m freestyle (56.26), and 50m fly.

Joshua Kim, 11, also placed first in all his events.

Robyn Nakano, 13, set a new meet Record in the 13-year-old girls 200m backstroke in a time of 2:28.54.

The meet also provided the opportunity for a number of the Langley swimmers to achieve qualifying times, with this being the last time to obtain a B.C. Short Course (25 metre pool) AA Provincial time.

Sarah Buckingham, 11, raced to her first AA time in 400m freestyle;

Josie Field, 10, received a first time B.C. AAA time in the 100m fly and Bennett MacDonald, 13, got his B.C. AAA time in the 1,500m freestyle.

A number of Olympians’s swimmers came away with 100m per cent best times, including Bailey Herbert, Reese Blunden, Sarah Buckingham, Bennett MacDonald, and Quinn St Pierre.

LOSC head coach Brian Metcalfe said all the Olympians’ swimmers were in great form and produced some great racing.

“They have all been training really hard and this was definitely on show at the meet,” Metcalfe said. “We came away with some great results.”
