Fort Langley finally has a grocery store again, almost two years after a fire destroyed the former IGA on the corner of Mavis Avenue and Glover Road.

The Lee family, including store owner Robert Lee, gathered with local politicians and about one hundred members of the public at 9 a.m. on Sunday for a grand opening and ribbon cutting.

Township Mayor Jack Froese helped the Lees cut the ribbon, with former mayor Kurt Alberts as master of ceremonies.

The new store is considerably larger than the former IGA, which was destroyed nearly two years ago, after a burglar set the place ablaze trying to cut through metal bars.

The grocery store is now set back on Mavis Avenue.

There has been a grocery store on that property since the early 20th century, through various owners and renovations.
