The funeral for Const. Adrian Oliver of the Surrey RCMP will be held at the Langley Events Centre today (Tuesday).

Oliver, 28, was killed on Nov. 13 when his unmarked police cruiser collided with a large truck in Surrey.

The funeral will begin at noon with a march, with the funeral proper beginning at 1 p.m. inside the LEC, said Sgt. Peter Thiessen, spokesperson for the Lower Mainland RCMP.

In Langley, the local RCMP will be extremely busy, said Const. Craig van Herk.

While some local officers will be attending the funeral, more will be working their regular patrol duties, or taking over the duties of their Surrey comrades.

Mounties from all over the Lower Mainland are expected to volunteer to take shifts in Surrey, allowing as many Surrey officers as possible to attend the funeral.

Surrey has Canada's largest RCMP detachment.

Until the funeral, two Mounties will be standing guard over Oliver's body 24 hours a day, a traditional honour guard vigil for a fallen officer.

The crash that killed Oliver is still under investigation, with local officers receiving oversight help from the Vancouver Police Department.

The public is invited to the funeral, but priority will be given to Oliver's family, friends, and uniformed emergency responders.
