A chemical spill on a Steven Spielberg-produced film set resulted in a visit from Langley Township firefighters Thursday, but no one was hurt.
The accident took place in the evening as crew for the TV series Falling Skies were setting up at the Langley Regional Airport, said airport manager George Miller.
Hydrofluoric acid spilled when a container – one of several storing cleaners for the hangar’s usual tenants – tipped over.
“It was pretty minor,” said Miller, saying the spill was about 1.5 feet in diameter.
Because hydrofluoric acid can injure or potentially kill through its fumes, the fire department was called in.
No one was harmed and the spill was cleaned up, said Miller.
The film crew has been at the airport since Tuesday, Miller said, and the regular tenants have been enjoying watching “alien attacks” during the filming, much of which takes place at night.
