The James family of Langley, including grandpa Rick Stefani (left), three-year-old Damon James, father Nathan, mother Patricia, and older brother Brennan, five, attended an Autism Speaks luncheon at Cole Harbour community centre recently. The lunch and afternoon of kids' events was designed to honour participants and volunteers who participate in a annual fundraising walk. This year's walk is set for Sept. 29 at Stanley Park. Woodlands 4-H Hare and Hound Club got together to thank their club's sponsors, especially those who sponsored awards over the past year, including the Neudorf, Marlikowski, and Van Gool families, and Summit Performance Transmissions, Aabec Piano Movers and Meister, KDG Farms Ltd., and Williams Copywriting. A special thanks also went out to the club's leaders and parents for their support over the years.
Ceremonies were held in Langley City to mark Lions United Nations Day. Local Lions Club representatives, including Langley president Carol Simkin and Fort Langley president Paul Keeris, joined municipal and provincial dignitaries to raise flags recognizing the occasion.

Sarah Vanderkerkhove of Feminine Form Fine Lingerie and Scott Johnston of Campbell Burton McMullan were both at the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce meeting in February.
Lillian Subulsky, Roy Brown, Major Robert S. Thompson, and Frank Edward Kellins (flanked by Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender on the left and Langley MLA Mary Polak on the right) were presented with Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals in recognition of their community leadership.
Langley Rotary Club president Garth Hansen presented a $25,000 cheque to Kwantlen Polytechnic University president and vice-chancellor Alan Davis, to endow a scholarship in memory of Marion Laurie, a generous benefactor to the club, and support students studying community and health studies at KPU.
