One man is dead after a three-car crash on 16th Avenue that began with an attempt by police to pull over a truck Monday evening.
At about 5:30 p.m. officers had set up a speed trap and automated license plate reader in the 24000 block of Zero Avenue.
A dark green pickup truck was flagged to be stopped, and officers tried to pull it over. The truck driver fled north on 240th.
About three minutes later, the truck collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of 240th Street and 16th Avenue.
A man in one of the other vehicles, the lone occupant of that car, was killed.
The driver in the other car was not hurt, and the driver of the pickup has been arrested.
Because the incident began with the attempt by the officers to make a traffic stop, the Independent Investigation Office is looking into the matter. The new agency does oversight of police-involved deaths or serious harm.
