Abram and Lena Driediger celebrated 60 years of marriage in November.

The story of Abram and Lena began right here on the steps of Bethel Mennonite Church in March of 1948. Abe had already been attending Bethel for a year before this. Lena began attending, and thus their history began! They were married here at Bethel, in the original building, on Nov. 13, 1949.

The Driedigers spent most of their life together living in Aldergrove. They had a small berry farm, which Lena mostly looked after. Abe worked for BC Packers for 42 years. They were blessed with four children, two girls and two boys, Victoria, Edward, Cornielus and Katie.

During this time, Lena spent her time working hard as a homemaker. Abram and Lena have both been members here at Bethel since 1949. We have been blessed by their faithful attendance and commitment to our congregation. Over the years Abe has done some work with the trustees, and Lena has served with the ladies.

We appreciate Abe and Lena for their committed love and service, for their wonderful sense of humour and honest nature. They pass on these qualities to their four children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

When asked what is the key to a long and satisfying marriage, Abe and Lena said: “That is a secret”! I asked them if they might share some of their secrets with me so that my marriage might last as long as theirs.

They answered that it is “give and take.” Both partners must be willing to give. They also vowed to love each other, and they have done so from the first day.

We celebrate with Abe and Lena in their 60 years of marriage.
