The Sweet family of Walnut Grove is going through most of the usual emotions after a break-in - fear, surprise, and anger.

But mostly, the family is frantic to track down two rings, heirloom jewelry that belonged to Keith Sweet's mother.

The rings were her wedding set and are about 50 years old.

"He's absolutely devastated," said Keith's wife Michelle.

Michelle Sweet said she and her husband and their children got home from a weekend trip to find their home ransacked.

The thieves had broken in through a window, rifled through bedrooms and a home office, and carried away anything they could, including a bag to haul their loot.

They hauled away jewelry, cologne and perfume, a computer and other items. They also left behind a lot of destruction, taking their time going through every part of the home.

They even rifled through the coffee can looking for any hidden valuables, although there was nothing but coffee grounds.

Sweet is now hoping someone spots the distinctive double-ring, which has two bands welded together.

Anyone who knows where the rings are or has a tip for the police can call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200, or CrimeStoppers at 1800222-8477 (TIPS).
