David Esworthy's appointment to the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame was applauded by Langley Township politicians at Monday night's council meeting.

Mayor Jack Froese recognized Esworthy's 50-plus year career with equestrian events, which has included working with Olympic teams, mentoring athletes and officials, and chairing the local Langley Horse Federation.

"The award was a complete surprise, and certainly furthest from my thoughts," Esworthy said.

Many other dedicated people made his achievements possible, Esworthy said.

He noted that Councillor Steve Ferguson has joked about Esworthy always coming to the council to ask for help with one project or another.

"But I'm not asking for anything," Esworthy said. "This time."
