Dear Editor,
Conservation is all of our business and total devastation of our shark population in the world will have dire consequences, not to mention that the practice of shark finning is barbaric.
Imagine catching a shark, cutting its fins off while it is alive, and tossing it back into the ocean to drown.
Our oceans are in danger of losing all types of species; it is under siege from pollution and over-fishing. Perhaps on our coast line we may practise some ocean-wise standards, but in Russia, China, and Japan, they over-fish and raid other countries' fishing territories.
I am ashamed at council for not voting for the shark fin ban [Tide rising against shark, Sept. 20, Langley Advance].
I want to commend Charlie Fox for bringing it forward to Township council. He should have received full support. Council should have taken the time to do some research. Thanks to Councillor Michelle Sparrow for supporting Coun. Fox.
