Dear Editor,
In response to new statistics that unfairly shoot Langley City to the top of the "crime capital" heap, Mayor Peter Fassbender suggests, "With the two Langleys being confused so often, one of them should really change its name."
Odd he should say that. Until March 15, 1955, there was only one Langley and no confusion about the name or the area it represented. If Mayor Fassbender is fuming because the City is too small to swallow broadly based statistics, perhaps he should consider that 3,176 City residents petitioned to have the mayor and his council consider an independent study with the Township of Langley into the pros and cons of reunification as one Langley.
More citizens signed this petition than voted for Mayor Fassbender in his most recent or previous elections.
However, their petition was rebuffed and council chose to dig its head into the sand.
