China deal more fossil folly

Dear Editor,

The secretive and extreme Canada-China FIPA investor deal would bind Canada for 31 years and let foreign corporations sue the Canadian government for huge amounts of money if we do anything to limit their profits.

Worse yet, the lawsuits would be decided by unaccountable arbitrators in secret tribunals outside of Canada's court system.

What has happened to Canada? Why wasn't I watching when our government morphed into a petro state in which primary interests evolved into unrestricted access to our resources? Investment without reciprocity. Investment without long term perspectives for our children? Investment that continues to embrace fossil folly while ignoring science.

We can no longer ignore the warnings of the world scientific community and embrace unrestricted access to carbon release that will ensure planetary collapse.

Please, help stop Prime Minister Stephen Harper's dismissive attitude to science and to the future of our children.

Neil Bryson, Langley
