The holiday season is heating up at Trinity Western University, with yet another "cool night" of music - specifically jazz - on the books for next week.
TWU's School of the Arts, Media and Culture is hosting a concert on Wednesday, Dec. 5 featuring the SAMC jazz combo.
The 14 "versatile" musicians will have some fun as they keep rearranging into different sized combos throughout the evening, explained music professor and jazz combo director Jeff Warren.
"Come along for a wild ride, from an intimate improvisation on My Funny Valentine, to the lush eight-piece ensemble on Pat Metheny's The Way Up, from harp and double bass duo to saxophone quartet, from Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington through to John Coltrane and Donny McCaslin," he said.
"This is our most ambitious program and most experienced group of players yet. Hearing these musicians play is more than an opportunity to hear great tunes, you get to watch them improvise and create new music on the spot," Warren said.
The concert is being held in the instrumental music hall at TWU, 7600 Glover Rd. Admission is by donation (suggested $5).
The concert starts at 7: 30 p.m., but organizers advise people come early to get a seat.
