A few Langley Olympians swimmers will soon enter highly competitive waters.

The local swim club sent seven swimmers to Victoria to compete in the 2012 BC AA Long Course Championships.

The meet took place over three days, June 22-24, at the Saanich Commonwealth Place pool, hosted by University of Victoria – Pacific Coast Swimming.

The ultimate goal for all 330 AA level swimmers taking part in this meet was to achieve AAA times in order to compete in the 2012 B.C. AAA championships, hosted by the Richmond Rapids this weekend (July 6-8) in Richmond.

Brayden Kells, 10, was the first Langley swimmer to gain a BC AAA time in the 11 & under 50-metre freestyle.

Kells also went on to get a BC AAA time in the 11 & under 100m breaststroke.

As well, Kells made finals in the 50m freestyle, placing second overall, and swam to second in the 200m breaststroke and fourth in the 100m breaststroke.

Ellen Lansing, 11, swam to AAA times in the 11 & under 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, and 400IM. Lansing also placed first in the 100m backstroke, 400m IM and 200m backstroke, fourth in the 200m IM, and sixth in the 200m breaststroke.

Pearl Schramm, 11, came away with a pair of AAA times in the 11 & under 100m and 200m breaststroke swims.

Schramm placed second in both these events to go along with an eighth-place result in the 200IM.

Other Langley swimmers attending the meet who didn’t quite make their BC AAA times but swam to finals were:

• Alysse Franklin, 13: 2nd in the 13-year-girls 400m freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 200m backstroke, 4th in the 200m IM and 100m backstroke, 5th in the 50m freestyle, and 7th in the 100m freestyle;

• Josie Field, 10: 6th in the 11 & under girls 200m IM and 8th in the 100m backstroke;

• Brandon Miller, 14, 1st in the 14-year-old boys 100m backstroke, 1500m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 200m backstroke, 2nd in the 200m freestyle, and 3rd in the 50m freestyle.

Lansing, Miller, and Schramm all achieved 100 per cent best times at the meet.

Olympians head coach Brian Metcalfe, said of his swimmers, “I am so pleased that three of our swimmers achieved their BC AAA times. The team we have travelling to the 2012 B.C. AAA meet in July is now very sizeable.”

The Olympians have 22 swimmers going to the AAA meet in Richmond.

“It was great to see so many of them making finals, winning medals and achieving best times,” Metcalfe added. “They all raced well against some very tough competitors.”
