Dorothy Peacock Elementary students are inviting the community for some evening fun Friday.
A family skate has been arranged for 7-8: 15 p.m. at the Langley Sportsplex roller rink. Given that it's only days before Halloween, everyone is encouraged to wear costumes.
Schools have to fundraise for many activities nowadays and the organizers wanted to find something different when raising money for a camping field trip.
"The skate's never been done before," said parent organizer Denby Johannesson. "We looked at all our different options."
There will be a candy concession and some carnival games as well as raffles for such things as Langley Rivermen tickets.
The A&W Root Bear will also be there to entertain the kids.
Parents can drop off their kids for the event or they can take part as well. There is also seating for those who may want to watch from the sidelines.
People can bring their roller skates or rollerblades, or they can rent them for $2.50 Admission is $5.
The event will raise funds for an educational trip. The Grade 7s will go to Evans Lake near Squamish for the outdoor education component of their schooling.
"They attend camp and learn about geology, skills, wildlife, mapping and more while also enjoying fun activities such as archery and canoeing," Johannsson said.
